Dark Horse announces the end of the B.P.R.D. series
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
As reported by Russ Burlingame on comicbook.com, the long-running B.P.R.D. series will wrap after issue 15 next May. This is fairly shocking and incredibly sad news for some of us fans, but as always, there is the looming presence of the other Mignolaverse books still in publication. It’s possible this could be the last ever entry in the Mignolaverse, but it’s more likely we’ll continue to see side stories and spin-offs going forward, in the style of the current title Crimson Lotus.
While the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense debuted with the first ever issue of Hellboy, the first stand alone publication was B.P.R.D.: Hollow Earth in 2002. As it’s not likely to be the end of the B.P.R.D. itself, nor its members, it’s probably more accurate to say that this will wrap a 15 year story line, and not that it will close 25 years of comics. For fans, however, it’s likely to seem like 15 issues of the Devil You Know is a very abrupt ending for such a long-running series.
"So here we are at last. For years I’ve known how the B.P.R.D. series would end. I wasn’t sure exactly how we would get here or how long it would take but I always knew in the end we’d have to get the original gang back together — including Rasputin," series creator Mike Mignola told ComicBook.com. "It was important to me that for the ending we would circle back around to where we started 25 years ago with Seed of Destruction. It’s a little sad but also very exciting to be here at last."
