46 days until Hellboy Day - Daryl Tynon
Daryl Tynon used to be human. During a hunting trip in 1989, he was caught for three days in a freak blizzard. During that blizzard, he was being stalked by a murderous, monstrous spirit known as a wendigo. The monster, upon killing Daryl, passed the curse into him, freeing the previous victom’s spirit.
For a long time, Daryl both maintained his ability to speak, and his memories. His existence was brought to the attention of the B.P.R.D. in 1990, when he was sighted stalking around his family’s summer home. He surrendered peacefully to Hellboy and Abe Sapien after they trapped him with fire, and told them his story.
On the trip to B.P.R.D. headquarters, Hellboy explained the details of the wendigo curse, and that Daryl’s family accepted his death and moved on. Daryl begged Hellboy to kill him, but learned that this would not free him. Tragically, Daryl had to accept his fate, that he would lose his memories, his humanity, and his mind. To comfort him, Hellboy gave Daryl a family photo, before locking him away.
Over ten years later, Daryl was moved, along with the rest of the B.P.R.D. headquarters, to the new Colorado facility. He was set free by Agent Ben Daimio, and wrongfully suspected of murdering a group of B.P.R.D. agents. At this time, the agency believed that he had long since regressed to the full bestial nature of the wendigo spirit. In reality, it was another, more ferocious spirit. Daryl accompanied Ben Daimio into the Canadian Wilderness when the agent went AWOL, and despite appearances, held on to part of his humanity, avoiding conflict and violence with humans.
Years later, Daryl reluctantly fought and killed agent Daimio, when the Jaguar Spirit could not be controlled anymore. This freed Daimio from his curse, and Daryl, alone again, has not been seen since.
