47 days until Hellboy Day - Baba Yaga
Baba Yaga was likely the most significant witch, aside from Hecate, in the whole of the Hellboy mythos. Originally, she went toe to toe with Hellboy while he was looking into a string of child disappearances. It was a short confrontation, starting with Hellboy sneaking up on her while she was counting the fingers of the dead in a graveyard and ending with Hellboy shooting her eyeball out. This began a grudge against Hellboy that followed the both of them until the apocalyptic events of The Storm and the Fury.
Baba Yaga was master over her own realm. As she faded from our world, she became deeper and deeper entrenched beyond the Thrice Nine Lands in the Thrice Tenth Kingdom, a place where legendary beings from Slavic and Russian folklore hold court. The story of Hellboy’s journey through this world, including his second direct confrontation with the Baba Yaga, is told in Darkness Calls.
Baba Yaga’s house has a giant chicken leg, she rides around in a floating mortar, has wooden legs of her own, and is apparently Rasputin’s grandmother, though as with most things pertaining to Baba Yaga, the veracity of that lineage could be up for debate.
