The B.P.R.D. ‘40s series is a very special thing. You could probably say that about literally any point of the Mignolaverse, but there’s something surprisingly fresh about going back in time 70 years. We establish both Bruttenholm’s heroic past, as well as the first appearance of the potentially main villain of the series. Sadly, if you haven’t already gotten your hands on these comics, you’re going to be scrounging for used or back issues. The hardcover collection seems to have gone out of print some time last year, and is no longer available from most. If you can get your claws on a copy, these stories are both significant, and important, not to mention damn fun. Content warning about the end of that collection/1948 should you choose to read it: you WILL cry.

In their own words:

Lets go back to 1946 and discover the origins of the B.P.R.D. and some great listener feedback! We discuss "And What Shall I Find There," "Bishop Olek's Devil" and "B.P.R.D. 1946!"

15:45 - 1940's discussion begins

The Hellboy Book Club releases new episodes every Tuesday, and is working their way through the entire Mignolaverse reading list. Find the current episode right here on PodBean.
